Cloud service giants under investigation in Italy

The competition by Apple, Google, and Dropbox cloud services is being monitored in Italy. The agency has launched an investigation after allegations surfaced that the companies were conducting “unfair” commercial practices.

The Italian news agency CNBC reports that the Italian Competition and Marketing Authority said it was conducting a total of six investigations into Google Drive, Apple’s iCloud and Dropbox.

The Italian company is investigating whether the services have failed to properly inform the customer about how the services will collect customer data and use them for commercial purposes.

The European Union is increasingly pressuring technology companies to clarify their terms of service and protect customer privacy. Italy has taken steps as part of this effort. Last year, under pressure from EU officials, Facebook agreed to change the terms.
