140,000 trees planted simultaneously in 4300 CHT Para Kendro in one hour

On the occasion of the birth century of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a number of programs have been taken up by the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board (CHTDB) at the initiative of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs. One of them is the one hundred and forty thousand different species tree planting programs in 4300 neighborhood centers (Para Kendro) and villages of the three hill districts.

From 11 am to 12 noon on Sunday (16 August), 4300 neighborhoods in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, 4 residential schools, and various establishments under the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board carried out simultaneous tree planting activities.

From the conference room of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Hill Tracts Minister Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh MP inaugurated the tree planting program through Zoom Conference.

Special guests on the occasion were: Mesbahul Islam, Secretary, Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs and presided over by Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura, NDC, Chairman, Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board.

After the screening of a video documentary on the tree planting program, Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura, NDC, Chairman, CHTDB expressed hope that this green space creation program would play a positive role in protecting the environment and conserving biodiversity in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. He also requested everyone to plant trees at this time.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry and senior officials, Vice-Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board, Member-Planning and Project Director of the Development Board, SSSHT Dr. Prakash Kanti Chowdhury (Deputy Secretary), Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid (Deputy Secretary), Member-Implementation, Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board officials, Rangamati Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Fatema Tuj Johra Upma, Kutukchhari Union Chairman Padma Kumar Chakma were present at the ceremony.

Board officials in 100 neighborhood centers with internet facilities in 26 Upazilas of 3 hill districts, senior administration officials, people’s representatives, traditional leaders, sustainable social service delivery project officials, field organizers, neighborhood workers, PCMC presidents and officials of project supporting organizations were present on the occasion through online.
