Russia’s Mariinsky ballet hit by coronavirus

The world-famous Mariinsky ballet company has called off performances after around 30 members, mostly dancers found coronavirus positive, Saint Petersburg health authorities said Monday.

Among them three have been hospitalized while the others are pursuing treatments at home, Irina Chinjeria of the city’s health authority stated to the news agency.

Approximately 300 additional dancers have been told to separate themselves to home quarantine as a precaution.

Mariinsky ballet Performances scheduled for last week were called off and only operas will be staged for the rest of August.

As of Monday, Russia had recorded 927,745 cases of COVID-19, and 15,740 deaths, according to official figures.
