The Sri Lankan government is investigating the World Cup final in 2011

Former Sri Lankan sports minister suspects Sri Lanka has deliberately lost the 2011 World Cup final. The current sports ministry has launched an investigation after hearing the allegations.

There is no end to the controversy in Sri Lankan cricket over the 2011 World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka. Muttiah Muralitharan, one of the members of the Sri Lankan team in the World Cup final, was not in favor of winning the toss and batting in that match. Former World Cup-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga expressed suspicion of fixing the final match. Former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has made the same allegation.

Former Sri Lankan captains Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara have denied the allegations previously. They did it again. But the Sri Lankan sports ministry is not taking it lightly this time. The country’s sports ministry wants to find out the truth by investigating.

Sports Minister Dulas Alahapperuma has ordered the formation of an inquiry committee. Every two weeks, the state of the investigation is also asked to be informed. The matter has been informed in a press release today.

Aluthgamage said about the World Cup final match in an interview with a local TV channel, “The 2011 World Cup final was rigged. It happened when I was the sports minister. I speak responsibly; However, I am not giving details in the interest of the country. The match against India in 2011, which we could have won, had already been set.”

Mahela, who scored a century in the final, did not remain silent in response to the former sports minister’s allegations. “Is the election too close?” He wrote on Twitter. Looks like the circus has started. Where are the name and proof? ‘Sangakkara, who captained the team in the final, also asked the sports minister to go to the ICC with evidence of match-fixing.
