Special flight to return those stranded Bangladeshi in Saudi

The Saudi embassy has arranged two special flights for the repatriation of Bangladeshis stranded in Saudi Arabia due to the coronavirus crisis. One flight from Riyadh on June 20 and another from Jeddah on July 1 will depart for Dhaka.

Bangladesh’s aviation with almost all countries, including Saudi Arabia, has been suspended due to the coronavirus epidemic. Many Bangladeshis living in Saudi Arabia want to return but are unable to do so. Biman is operating special flights to return Bangladeshis from different countries during this crisis.

Golam Masih, Bangladesh’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, said the special flight was aimed at those who are physically ill or wanting to return home in case of emergency or those who want to return home.

He said, “About 21 lakh Bangladeshis live in Saudi Arabia. Many people want to return to the country for urgent family needs, there are many sick expatriates, many students studying in different universities here are waiting to go to the country, many are not able to come back on visit visas and we have taken this initiative thinking of everyone.”

The ambassador said only Bangladeshi passport holders who will complete the registration through the embassy will be able to travel on the flight. Passengers will buy tickets from the designated office of Bangladesh Biman in Saudi Arabia.

Regarding the registration, he said, “This registration will be completed on a priority basis. The registrar will call the embassy and inform 400 expatriates for Riyadh and 400 expatriates for Jeddah to buy tickets. Others will be called in order later, subject to vacancies.”

Biman Bangladesh authorities have fixed the price of Riyadh-Dhaka one-way ticket at Economy Class 2600 Saudi Riyals and Business Class 3700 Saudi Riyals. Tickets for the one-way Jeddah-Dhaka flight are priced at 3030 Saudi Riyals for Economy Class and 4030 Saudi Riyals for Business Class.
