Meena Bazar partners with Kormo to help jobseekers find jobs during pandemic

Bangladeshi supermarket chain Meena Bazar is offering remote career opportunities to entry-level job seekers and transitioning to 100% remote interviewing.

As part of the effort, the retailer is working with Google’s job-matching app, Kormo, which just launched its new features, remote jobs listing and remote interviews, that enables those looking for employment to discover critical work-from-home opportunities and safely interview online to assist employers respond to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Meena Bazar’s move comes from the recent unprecedented demand for delivery services with customers staying home. This has increased their need to hire more staffs and take interviews remotely to cope with the requirements of customers throughout the pandemic. In April alone, Meena Bazar used Kormo app and through the app, the company hired more than 400 workers during lockdown.

“These days, our expert HR team is working with Kormo and conducting remote interviews to recruit people. This has made the process safer for our team and candidates,” said Ahmed Shoyeb, General Manager at Meena Bazar.

“It’s our responsibility as a critical business to step up at this time. We’re confident our partnership with Kormo will enable us to keep up with hiring demands and scale our remote workforce quickly.”

As stated by the International Labour Organization (ILO), there’ll be an increased need to assist job seekers in countries like Bangladesh, especially the young ones who comprise 47% of the total population of the country and face the risk of labour market disruptions from the pandemic. Meena Bazar’s attempt to build up the provision of remote jobs and hiring could be a permanent one, because it acknowledges the changing needs of young job seekers and makes much-needed employment opportunities available in Bangladesh.

Kormo app was launched in September 2018. Since then, Kormo has matched thousands of entry-level job seekers to employers in Bangladesh. The new feature release aims to accelerate employers’ response to the surging need for employment, enabling them to promote remote jobs, highlight them on job seekers’ feeds and facilitate remote interviews, offering a timely update for businesses and individuals during Coronavirus.

“We remain committed to helping employers and job seekers find the right opportunities at a time when they aren’t always able to leave their homes. This feature release is one way we’re supporting them to connect with each other,” says Bickey Russell, Lead for Kormo.
