Bangladeshi entrepreneur Toufiq M. Seraj dies

Bangladeshi entrepreneur, engineer, Managing Director of Sheltech, Mr. Toufiq M. Seraj has passed away in Doha, Qatar. He was 63. He died yesterday at 3 AM, while he was in Qatar Airport on his way to Spain for business purpose. He suffered a heart attack inside the plane. The plane made an emergency landing at Doha Airport and he died there. His dead body is still in Qatar and processing to bring back his dead body to Bangladesh is ongoing. He left his wife, mother, two daughters to mourn his death.

According to Sheltech’s website, Dr. Toufiq M. Seraj was the Founder and Managing Director of Sheltech and its associated companies. He is an Engineer and Planner by profession. He obtained his Ph.D. in Civic Design from the University of Liverpool, UK as a Commonwealth Scholar.

Earlier he completed his Master and Bachelor degree from BUET. He formerly held academic positions at BUET. He has extensive professional experience in Real Estate Development, Construction Management, and Planning Consultancy. He had a wide range of publications including several books on Town Planning, Housing and Real Estate.

Besides Real Estate he was also involved in other businesses which include Consultancy, Hospitality Industry, Construction of Industrial Buildings, Manufacturing of Concrete Products and Ceramic Tiles.

He was the President of Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) for three consecutive terms. He was also President of Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP). He formerly held leadership positions in several professional and social organizations. He was also actively involved in different research and non-profit organizations.
