Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya to screen at Picturehouse Central

News Hour:

Following its European Premiere at the LOVE Gala screening at BFI London Film Festival and its international festival run, BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s cinematic ode to love, Mirzya, will be screening at Picturehouse Central from 23rd December 2016.

Produced by Cinestaan Film Company and ROMP Pictures, Mirzya is helmed by the multi award-winning Mehra, whose accomplished body of work includes critically hailed biopic, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and celebrated Indian drama, Rang De Basanti – BAFTA-nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and India’s official selection for entry to the Academy Awards.

Embodying new age Indian cinema, Mirzya introduces a new generation of acting talent in principals, Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, alongside Anuj Choudhry, all of whom make their screen debuts in this tragic love story, conveyed in the director’s inimitable style. Supporting them onscreen is Anjali Patil and a seasoned ensemble of internationally renowned veterans comprising Art Malik, Om Puri and K.K. Rana.

Combining the crème of artistic talent from India with international counterparts to create a visual feast, Mirzya has been written by Academy and Grammy award-winning poet and lyricist, Gulzar. The film has been edited by P. S. Bharathi Mehra, while Indian musical trio, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, has crafted a richly atmospheric soundtrack to further heighten the sweeping mise-en-scene. Internationally, Polish DOP, Pawel Dyllus, has exquisitely shot the film, featuring action sequences directed by Danny Baldwin (The Last Samurai) and special effects courtesy of Prana (Life of Pi, Transformers, Thor). Mirzya unfolds through heightened drama and state-of-the-art action sequences against the visually arresting terrain of Rajasthan, juxtaposed with flashes of the fantastical universe of the folklore dimension amid the mountainous landscape of Ladakh.

Mirzya is Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Produced by Cinestaan Film Company and ROMP Pictures.
