Photography exhibition on Chittagong Hill Tracts held at Drik Gallery

On the occasion of the 18th founding Anniversary of Ministry of Chittagong Hill tracts Affairs (MOCHTA) of Bangladesh, a 5 day long photography competition and exhibition entitled Chittagong Hill Tracts: People and Nature started yesterday (from July 5-19, 2016) at Drik Gallery, Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

The exhibition will remain open during 3-8 PM during those days.

In accordance with the Prime Minister of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina’s historical peace agreement of Chittagong Hill-Tracts (CHT) a new ministry named Ministry of Chittagong Hill-Tracts Affairs was established on July 15, 1998. The exhibition is celebrating the memorable day with the beauty of Bangladesh Hill Tracts views.

Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Information graced the event as the Chief Guest while Mr. Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, MP, Honorable Minister of State, Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs was the Special Guest in the inaugural ceremony. Naba Bikram Kishor Tripura, NDC, the Secretary of Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs chaired the prorgram.

The Information Minister said in his speech at the inaugural event, “When a portion of the nation is neglected, silent revolutions take place. Celebration of the CHT Affairs ministry is a symbol of recognition and addressing the need of the historic communities in the hard to reach area in Bangladesh at the hill tracts.” He also underscored to pay more attention to the communities living in those areas.

Associates of this exhibition are United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), BRAC, Hellen Keller International (HKI), Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), CARITAS, Padakkhep and Bangladesh Adventure Club (BAC).

Both professional and armature photographers from all around Bangladesh are participating in this exhibition. From selected 100 photographs, exhibition judges panel (Soeb Faruki, Manjir Hasan Murad and Monirul Khan) select Jewel Chakma, Md. Zobayer Hossain and Nidal Adnan winners respectively as 1st, 2nd and 3rd. They received Taka 50,000, 35,000 and 25,000 respectively along with certificates.
