Photo contest to promote people, culture and nature of Chittagong Hill Tracts

On the occasion of the 18th founding anniversary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs (MOCHTA) is doing a photo contest and exhibition. It will be held from 15-19 July at renowned Drik Gallery. The Exhibition will be open for all from 3-7 pm. For more info visit the event page.

The theme of the Exhibition is “Chittagong Hill Tracts : People and Nature”. Both amateur and professional photographers from hills and plains may participate. The event is being organised by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs in partnership with Bangladesh Adventure Club.

Chittagong Hill Tracts is a region of green hills, blue sky and ethnic diversity located in the south eastern corner, covering an area of 13,295 Km2, about 11% of the land area of Bangladesh, home to 11 different small ethnic communities viz, Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Mru, Tongchongya, Bawm, Lushai, Khumi, Kheyang, Pankho, Chak and also Bengali speaking mainstream people, numbering nearly 1.6 million. One fourth of the region is Reserve Forest, about 322,331 hectares or 8,21,207 acres. South Asia’s largest man-made lake – Kaptai Lake – is located here. The main rivers are Karnaphuli, Chengi, Maini, Sangu, Kachalong, Matamuhuri and Feni.

Interested photographers can submit photos. Submission deadline for primary selection is June 30, 2016, 5 pm and final selection will be done by 2nd July 2016. After the selection process they will publish a full name list and selected photographers will be informed for singing the exhibition concern letter.

Mridha Shihab Mahmud is a writer, content editor and photojournalist. He works as a staff reporter at News Hour. He is also involved in humanitarian works through a trust called Safety Assistance For Emergencies (SAFE). Mridha also works as film director. His passion is photography. He is the chief respondent person in Mymensingh Film & Photography Society. Besides professional attachment, he loves graphics designing, painting, digital art and social networking.
